The Austin Independent School District created its first magnet program, the Science Academy at Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) High School, in 1985. The Liberal Arts Academy at Johnston High School was opened in 1987. The two programs were merged in 2002 and become the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA), housed on the LBJ High School campus. In 2007, the school board voted to make LASA its own high school. LASA High School and LBJ High School continue to share a campus, fine arts and athletic activities and compete in UIL events as a single school.
The LASA Foundation is engaged in building a database and network to serve all Science Academy, Liberal Arts Academy, LASA and LASA High School alumni from 1985 to the present. We invite alumni to share contact information and update us on your activities.
